Steve Barlow and I were very pleased to be asked to become Ysgol Esgob Morgan’s brand new Patron of Reading in December 2015.

Tim Redgrave was “chuffed to bits” when we said “yes” to his request that we take over from Helena Pielichaty, who set up the Patron of Reading scheme with Tim back in 2010/11.

We have had several very successful visits to the school and love spending time with the staff and students. We have performed several of our BIG shows and run writing workshops across all year groups. We also continue to develop the role of reading in the school and help and support other schemes that the school have pioneered.

It was great to be able to help launch the “Free Little Library for Parents”.

Tim Redgrave had three “book boxes” made and placed around the school entrances, so that parents can borrow, swap and recommend books to each other.

Tim explained the idea in his newsletter to parents. “The idea is for you to be good role models for the children and for them to see you pick up books to enjoy.”

We think it’s a great scheme and one we hope that other schools will pick up on!

I am still Patron of Reading and was honoured to nominate the school for a Reading Award given by the Society of Authors.

Students have already been working hard on projects associated with our books!
